So from what I understand, some people think they can just “have” or “own” a hot rod. You can’t just go out and buy a hot rod. I mean sure you can go to a fabrication company tell them what you want and have one built, but hot rods are your blood. You adapt, Weld, Form metal, channel, chop, and make choices that show your style. They are the only automobile that holds this tight of a relationship between owner and car. It’s a shame people don’t know names like isky or blackie or roth. Do some digging and you’ll like what you see. The most important thing you must understand is hot rods are built, never bought.

I think this should be true of all cars, not just hot rods. People should make the cars theirs, make it what you want it to be.

i agree to some degree with what’s being said. however, a lot of people (maybe even some of the people who have spoken) make a living off of customizing/building/fabricating hot rods. and with that said, the people who pay them should be praised. furthermore, someone who is too busy to learn trades like welding because they’re occupied  with their profession, but admire the aesthetic of a hot rod, shouldn’t be scrutinized for funding and taking part in hobby (or lifestyle if you want to go there).
i’ve done all of the work on my own car until recently when the starter went out and i was stuck with a broken hand. i was definitely bummed about handing my car over, but when i thought about the fact that i was supporting a small, well trusted shop; i was a little more enthusiastic about the process.
just sayin, don’t shoot yourself in the foot by openly telling the people who support you that they can’t hang.
